Summer Travels - Be Prepared

As summer is upon us, so is the need for natural travel size remedies.  We went camping a few weeks ago and I decided ahead of time we would need a versatile balm to take with us.  I created my herbal healing balm with many different herbs to soothe irritated skin.  The herbs all help soothe inflamed skin,  burns, cuts, wounds and itching.  I also added essential oils to aid in the healing process.

Because of the essential oils used, this balm can also be used for sunburns and headaches.
Stay tuned for more summer travel products and have a great summer!

How to make your Valentine's Day Unique!

It's that time of year again, time to show your love to the wonderful people in your life!  Sometimes it's hard to find that something special, or something unique.  I mean why do what everyone else is doing?  I like to do things differently.  I hide coupons in places where they will be seen by the recipient.  Could be a sweet note for your son or daughter saying  you will spend an evening doing what they choose.  Schedule a game day, or a special trip somewhere.  It's the little things that matter.

At our home I usually put a sweet valentines table cloth on the table after everyone has gone to bed, then I arrange a box for each child of those sweet little valentine hearts boxes in their place with their name on the outside.  They have such fun reading all of the hearts before eating them and it will become a special memory for them.

Sometimes we get too busy with life to do something special, but, make time to do just one little thing.  Create a tradition this holiday for them to remember.  Here are some ideas to get you started:

Have a snowball fight
Have a tea party
Have a day to create their very own valentines cards to give( they always love this)
Tell the story of your courtship
Create special place settings for each person
Make heart cookies
Bake a heart cake
Read about St. Valentine

Hope this gets your creative juices flowing!  Have a great Valentines Day!

Activated Charcoal - What is it used for?

We started using activated charcoal many years ago and have since used it for countless issues.  Originally, we had found we had allergies and the doctor that did our testing recommended 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a bit of water to relieve food allergy symptoms.  This worked quite well, but of course, the taste was not to our liking.  At some later point in time, we were exposed to activated charcoal which is known to absorb gases, heavy metals, poisons, and other chemicals, thus making them ineffective and harmless.  Doctors still use it today as a healing agent, an antidote for poisons, and an effective treatment for indigestion and gas. So, I started thinking, why wouldn't it absorb the offending food or chemical I was reacting to?  Well, it does and it works wonderfully.  I admit that at first, I might have abused it just to be able to eat something I normally couldn't, but then of course things leveled out.

We have also used charcoal for skin conditions, bee stings, etc..  One of my sons starts swelling immediately after a bee sting, so I started putting activated charcoal powder on a wet paper towel and apply it to the sting right away.  It still swelled some and I did repeat applications, but it kept it at bay so that we didn't need to pursue further help.

We use chewable tablets for the younger children when necessary, for food type problems.  I use the activated charcoal capsules.  For the most part, one dose of 2 tablets works for me, but occasionally I take 2 doses.

CAUTION - Activated Charcoal will absorb medications, so if you are taking a medication please research more on how to use charcoal or if you should  use it.  There is a time frame, like take meds 2 hours before charcoal, but I can't remember what that is at this point.

I have also created an activated charcoal soap that I sell in my Etsy Shop.  I use essential oils that are great for skin conditions and it has been getting rave reviews.  Please visit my shop here - www.elegantroseboutique.etsy.com
